Obituary

Melvin Jackson was born to the union of Crawford and Courtney Jackson on April 16th, 1926, in Tyronza, Arkansas. From the young age of 14, he became well acquainted with work and didn’t retire until the age of 86. He did construction work and later joined the United States Coast Guard, where he served as a Merchant Marine.

After his discharge, Melvin moved to Seattle, Washington and lived there for a short period of time. He decided to pick up and move to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1953. He fell in love with Vegas and decided to build himself a home.

He worked all over Las Vegas as a construction worker building several casinos, roads, and much more. Melvin worked as a shoe shiner at The Mirage Casino and was forced to retire at age 86 due to heart failure.

Melvin loved playing checkers and was a winner to all his challengers. He loved people and was always willing to help those in need.

On Wednesday, morning of April 13th, 2021, The Lord Jesus Christ called Melvin home to glory.

Melvin leaves behind a host of family and friends who will truly miss him wholeheartedly. He will never be forgotten!

My name is Daeronna, I’m Melvin’s daughter. I appreciate the author of the obituary doing their best to describe my dad, but there was so much more to him. He was a father, a grandfather, a great grandfather, a great great grandfather, a brother, uncle and friend. We did not name names, because our family is so big and it’s not about us, but about him. He lived a good life and I thank GOD for sharing him with us. I pray GOD grants me HIS BLESSING of the same longevity as my dad. Life will not be the same without him. I miss him so much already and will see him on the other side 🙏🏾💙

James was very close to his Uncle Melvin. Uncle Melvin taught him how to box among other things. Here they are together...
